Copying files from your host machine into the DaDesktop machine
A much-requested new feature is the ability to copy files from a trainer's own laptop or desktop computer directly into the DaDesktop machine. These files could be presentations, install ISOs for use in a nested virtualization system that lets you run multiple servers and desktops, or general files needed for a specific training application.
The team has added an easy-to-use file transfer feature to our latest Windows 10 and most Linux templates, so you can drag and drop files from your host machine (your own laptop or desktop) directly onto the DaDesktop machine.
For now, the file transfer works one file at a time, but if you need to copy over multiple files, you can create a zip archive and drag and drop that as well. The transfer uses chunking to ensure large files are sent efficiently and works best with a fast fibre internet connection. Any folders inside the archive (for example, a zip file) are preserved.
On Linux templates, we don't yet have a desktop shortcut to the Uploads folder on the desktop the way Windows does. Instead, the files can be found in:
/home/student/uploads-to-dadesktop
