Standalone Desktops Overview
First off, what do we mean by a Standalone Desktop in DaDesktop?
There's a great overview of the different desktops here. But in a nutshell, a 'Standalone' desktop is a machine that isn't necessarily used during a course. It 'stands alone' as a separate desktop you can use before or after the course wraps up, or just use on its own without any connection to a course.
The Standalone is really flexible in that way.
Common reasons for setting up Standalone desktops:
- Preparing training course materials you can reuse time and time again outside of a course, or keep handy for when you need them.
- When you need a flexible machine, maybe with a different operating system (Linux, Windows), to test out ideas in a safe environment.
Features:
- Sharing links give full access to anyone with the link!
- If not in use, it'll shut down automatically after 24 hours.
Cost:
- Creating a desktop is free.
- Starting a desktop will cost you.
- The amount depends on the number of units, which is based on CPU, memory, and disk space. There's an extra charge for Windows.
- If you join a course as a student or trainer, you'll get free credits you can use for standalones.
- If you don't connect to your standalone for more than a month, it'll be removed.
Usage tip:
Start with "clonefrom#" followed by the keyword to search for desktops from which the desktops were cloned.
