DaDesktop

Hyper-V Server

UPDATED April 2024

When you use DaDesktop (DD), the majority of applications run perfectly after being set up on a Fresh Start machine. However, a small number of applications don't behave as expected due to the cloning process, and they require a few extra steps to function properly.

Fresh Start Fix Notes
  1. Keep in mind this is a general guide to resolve issues with this app when using Fresh Start. The exact steps may vary based on your specific setup.

  2. To summarise, the fix in Fresh Start is as follows: Hyper-V encounters duplicate MAC address issues with the External switch when cloned from the FreshStart machine. To work around this, choose the second pre-configured Intel network connection, or remove the external switch in the FreshStart machine before cloning (more on this below).

Fix process

1. The Hyper-V Manager is shown below. Right-click to select the Virtual Switch Manager dialog box.

2. In the Virtual Switch Manager dialog, choose the 'External' switch as shown, then select the Intel Pro /1000 network connection indicated above. Note: This option is available only with newer Windows 10 templates, v71 or higher. Click OK and save the configuration if prompted. Close Hyper-V Manager.

3. Proceed with configuring the FreshStart machine as needed. Once done, shut down the machine from inside the VM, and wait until it's fully stopped. Then clone the FreshStart machine to the Trainer and Participant machines as required.

The Hyper-V server should now work correctly on both Trainer and Participant machines. Without this change, participants might end up seeing each other's machines instead of their own, because the external network card is cloned, resulting in duplicate MAC addresses when the External switch is cloned from the FreshStart machine.
