Potential issues during use

A small number of applications may require slight modifications to work fully with DaDesktop

Issues during Fresh Start cloning and fixes available

Most applications work absolutely normally when prepared in the Fresh Start machine when using DaDesktop (DD). But there are one or two applications that, due to the cloning process, do not work as expected, and need a few extra steps to operate normally.

• Oracle Database Server - You'll need to change the hostname from the one that is duplicated to 127.0.0.1
• Hyper-V server - Hyper-V has a problem with duplicate MAC addresses with the External switch enabled, when cloned from the FreshStart machine
• Google Chrome - Chrome may not start correctly on cloned machines due to a profile linked to the Fresh Start machine, if the Fresh Start machine was not shut down fully during cloning
• WSL - Windows System for Linux - During testing we have found that DaDesktop machines with a WSL installation are not portable—that is, moving a DaDesktop machine that has a WSL installation will not boot successfully when moved to another DD server. The reason for this is unknown, but we presume that Windows makes an assumption about the hardware it is installed on, and if moved to another server, it causes a problem. As WSL is rarely used for training (normally Linux is used directly), this issue has not been fully investigated yet
• Issues where a trial software licence uses the MAC address to track the licence - In this case, the licence was tied to a MAC address, and when the machine was cloned, it appeared the licence had already been activated and used up.
• Applications that require licences may need to be added after FreshStart has been cloned.
   

Other Issues that may occur when using DaDesktop

• Very slow Virtualbox seen when using Hyper-V and VirtualBox (This occurs not only when using DaDesktop)

  Problem: Very slow VirtualBox on Windows machines can make it nearly impossible to deliver a course, but the solution is super simple:-

  Solution 2: Ensure the workaround with Hyper-V Server is used as above, otherwise duplicate MAC addresses are used, which can lead to slow machine performance, boot issues, and other strange behaviour.

• Unable to type certain characters ie Apostrophes / Quotation Marks, Inverted Commas, into a DaDesktop machine.
